DEMA FSH UIN Jakarta Holds Advocacy Education 2026 to Strengthen Student Capacity in People’s Struggles

FSH News, Room Student Center -The Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Sharia and Law (DEMA FSH) at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta organized Advocacy Education 2026 under the theme “Crystallizing the Movement of Sharia and Law Students Toward Genuine People’s Struggle” on June 26–27, 2026. The program aimed to strengthen students’ capacity in understanding human rights, advocacy, social analysis, and community organizing as instruments to achieve social justice.

Advocacy Education 2026 was designed as a learning space encouraging students not only to understand law normatively but also to develop social sensitivity, solidarity with vulnerable groups, and the ability to implement legal knowledge through real advocacy work in society.

The event opened on Friday, June 26, with a series of formal activities including Qur’an recitation, the Indonesian national anthem, UIN Jakarta hymn, FSH march, speeches from the organizing committee and DEMA FSH leadership, and the official launch of the program.

On the first day, participants received material on Human Rights delivered by M. Nabil Hafizurrahman from LBH Jakarta. The session covered basic concepts of human rights, the development of human rights instruments in Indonesia, various forms of violations, and the importance of a human rights perspective in responding to social issues.

Next, Alif Fauzi Nurwidiastomo from LBH Jakarta presented Introduction to Advocacy and Legal Aid. Students learned about advocacy concepts, mechanisms of legal aid, strategies for community assistance, and the role of students as part of civil society in defending citizens’ rights.

Participants were then divided into six discussion groups addressing strategic issues: criminalization of citizens and activists, agrarian conflicts, exploitation of workers and vulnerable labor, environmental crises, sexual violence, and commercialization of education. Through case studies, students analyzed community problems and formulated relevant advocacy strategies.

On the second day, Virdinda La Ode from KontraS delivered material on Social Analysis in Advocacy, equipping participants with skills to critically read social realities, identify root causes, and map actors and interests involved in issues.

The program continued with Ahmad Syahronny Fadhil, who presented Advocacy Strategies and Community Organizing. He emphasized the importance of community organizing, citizen consolidation, and agenda-setting as strategic steps in collective rights struggles.

The final session featured Savero Aristia Wienanto, journalist at Tempo, who spoke on Media and Documentation in Community Assistance. Students gained knowledge on documentation techniques, issue narration, public communication strategies, and the use of media to broaden support for people’s issues.

The entire Advocacy Education 2026 program ran smoothly and orderly. Student enthusiasm was evident in active participation during discussions, Q&A sessions, simulations, and advocacy strategy development.

Through this initiative, DEMA FSH UIN Jakarta hopes to nurture students with strong social analysis skills, comprehensive understanding of advocacy mechanisms, and the ability to implement knowledge in community service and assistance. Advocacy Education 2026 is expected to be a starting point for building a student movement oriented toward justice, humanity, and sustainable people’s struggles.
