Dewi Sekar Candrawati, Best Graduate of FSH, Delivers Message on the Usefulness of Knowledge at the 141st Graduation Ceremony of FSH UIN Jakarta
FSH News, Harun Nasution Auditorium — The Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held its 141st graduation ceremony, a historic moment for graduates after completing their academic journey. On this occasion, Dewi Sekar Candrawati, the best graduate, delivered a reflective message on the importance of making knowledge a path of usefulness, maintaining integrity, and continuing to learn beyond university education.
In her speech, Sekar expressed gratitude for completing her academic journey, which was filled with challenges and experiences. She thanked her parents for their prayers, support, and sacrifices throughout her education.
She also extended appreciation to lecturers and the entire academic community of FSH UIN Jakarta for imparting knowledge, guidance, and exemplary character. According to her, education at the faculty not only provided academic knowledge but also shaped students’ character to uphold integrity, noble morals (akhlaqul karimah), and the courage to take roles in society.
Sekar emphasized that graduation is not the end of the journey but the beginning of proving that the knowledge gained during education can bring benefit to life. The academic degree earned, she noted, is not merely a personal achievement but also a trust that carries responsibility to contribute to society.
Her message was reinforced by quoting the thought of Kiai Sahal Mahfudz, who said that being good can be simple, but being useful requires struggle. Sekar urged graduates not to stop at academic achievements but to keep moving, innovating, and bringing benefit to others.
“Being good is easy, just by staying silent. But being useful requires struggle,” Sekar reminded in her speech.
Beyond usefulness, Sekar also reminded graduates to always uphold integrity and honesty in life after earning their academic degree. She stressed that a degree should not make someone feel superior to others but should serve as a reminder that the higher one’s education, the greater the moral responsibility carried.
She also apologized for any shortcomings during her time at FSH UIN Jakarta and expressed hope that the bonds formed during college would remain strong, even as graduates pursue different paths and professions.
The spirit of lifelong learning was another key part of her message. Quoting again from Kiai Sahal Mahfudz, Sekar reminded that ignorance begins when one stops reading and learning. This reflection encouraged graduates to maintain the pursuit of knowledge throughout their lives.
The 141st graduation ceremony of FSH UIN Jakarta marked the moment of sending graduates into broader fields of service. With the knowledge, experiences, and values gained during their academic journey, alumni are expected to become individuals of integrity and contribute meaningfully to society.
For Dewi Sekar Candrawati and all graduates, graduation is not merely the end of education but the beginning of applying knowledge, upholding the good name of the alma mater, and bringing benefit to society, the nation, and religion.
