FSH News, Jakarta – The Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, together with the Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), officially opened the 10th International Annual Conference on Fatwa Studies (IACFS), held on July 26–28, 2026, at JS Luwansa Hotel and Convention Center, South Jakarta.

The opening ceremony was marked by the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Maksum, and the Chairman of MUI’s Fatwa Division, Prof. Asrorun Niam Sholeh. This collaboration is part of strengthening synergy between universities and fatwa institutions in developing education, research, and community service in Islamic law and fatwa studies.

This international conference, now in its 10th edition, carried the theme “The Role of Fatwa in Promoting Global Peace and Religious Harmony” as a response to various conflicts and humanitarian challenges occurring worldwide.

The event was officially opened by the Chairman of MUI, KH. Anwar Iskandar. In his remarks, he emphasized that religious fatwas must serve as guidance not only in matters of worship but also in providing solutions to humanitarian issues and strengthening social harmony in increasingly complex global societies.

Prof. Asrorun Niam Sholeh, Chairman of MUI’s Fatwa Division and Professor at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, explained that the 10th IACFS was attended by 63 presenters selected from more than 350 submitted articles. Participants came from countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Kuwait, and India, reaffirming IACFS’s position as an international academic forum for fatwa studies.

Over three days, the conference addressed five major areas of fatwa studies: Islamic economics, halal product standards, methodology of Islamic legal rulings (manhaj al-fatwa), contemporary fatwa issues, and strengthening the role of fatwa in community life. The forum is expected to produce academic recommendations that enhance the contribution of fatwas in addressing modern challenges while supporting peace and harmony globally.

Beyond the conference, FSH UIN Jakarta and MUI’s Fatwa Commission also agreed to strengthen cooperation in education, teaching, research, and community service. This collaboration is expected to advance Islamic legal scholarship that is more responsive to societal needs and broaden the academic contributions of both institutions.

The signing of the cooperation agreement was witnessed by the Chairman of MUI and its board members, Vice Dean for Cooperation of FSH UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. H. Kamarusdiana, M.H., program heads, lecturers, and conference participants from various universities and partner institutions.

Through the 10th IACFS and strengthened partnership with MUI’s Fatwa Commission, FSH UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta reaffirmed its commitment as a center for Islamic law and fatwa studies, oriented toward academic excellence, public benefit, and reinforcing Indonesia’s role in the global discourse of Islamic scholarship.
