Conducted in a hybrid format at the Faculty’s Second Floor Theater and via Zoom, the event was attended by students, lecturers, and participants from various institutions.
The public lecture featured Lukas Schäufele, LL.M., a legal practitioner from Germany, as the keynote speaker. The session was moderated by Ferinda Khairunnissa Fachri, S.H., LL.M., and officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Maksum, S.H., M.A., M.D.C.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Muhammad Maksum emphasized the importance of preparing graduates who are capable of competing in the global arena. He noted that globalization has not only increased the mobility of goods and services but has also accelerated the movement of professional talent across national borders. Consequently, law students must equip themselves with the competencies necessary to thrive in international professional environments.
During the main session, Lukas Schäufele shared his experiences and insights into the realities of international legal practice. He explained that success in the global legal profession is determined not only by academic achievement but also by adaptability, communication skills, and the courage to embrace new challenges.
He encouraged students to cultivate an open mindset, step beyond their comfort zones, and actively seek international experiences. According to him, effective communication is more important than linguistic perfection, as learning through practice and making mistakes are essential components of professional development.
Lukas further emphasized that international career opportunities are accessible to graduates from a wide range of universities. The most significant factors for success, he explained, are competence, professional experience, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to continuous learning and self-improvement.
The event was designed as an interactive dialogue, creating a dynamic atmosphere in which participants raised various questions concerning overseas study opportunities, language challenges, and cultural adaptation within international professional settings.
Through this event, the Faculty of Sharia and Law of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta hopes to broaden students’ understanding of international legal practice and inspire them to develop the competencies required to navigate an increasingly competitive global environment. The program also reaffirmed the Faculty’s commitment to producing outstanding graduates with international competitiveness who are prepared to contribute to the advancement of law on a global scale.
